Whether you only have two hours to kill or a whole day to spend in Seyðisfjörður, we’ll go over why you should add this rainbow street to your list of stops to fully experience everything Iceland has to offer.
Before You Go…
If you’re pretty deep into your Iceland research and planning, you may have already seen pictures of this cute, little rainbow road with a light blue church in the background. Well, let me tell you it really is as pretty in real life!
I will start off by saying that to some people, this visit may not be worth it. My husband wasn’t as amused about the road as I was. He kept teasing me about it saying “It should be called a rainbow sidewalk”. I’m not sure if it’s just cause he’s a man or if it was just lighthearted teasing because I kept hyping it up throughout the whole trip.
That being said, I believe it was totally worth the visit and would recommend it to anyone who has the time for it. If you are already rushing through your Iceland itinerary, then maybe it’s best to sit this one out.
But if you can spare the extra hour getting there and back onto The Ring Road then I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with not only the rainbow street but the scenic drive to get there.
How to Get to the Town of Seyðisfjörður, Iceland
This small town is located on the northeast coast of Iceland. If you are in the south, you’ll want to continue traveling along The Ring Road counterclockwise.
For example, from Höfn you’ll want to travel north towards Egilsstaðir. Egilsstaðir will be a small town along The Ring Road. From here you’ll drive about 30 mins on route 93 to get to the town of the rainbow road.
The town and directions can easily be found on Google Maps by looking up Rainbow Walk. The drive will surprise you as it starts off with the normal hilly roads of Iceland. After some time, the view really starts to open up as you make your way down into the fjord.
The view from here was one of my favorite parts. Even my husband said it was worth the visit to this town just because of the drive there and the view.
